Winners revealed at the 2022 Global Tank Storage Awards
- 30/05/2022
The 5th Global Tank Storage Awards took place in Rotterdam on 24 May 2022. More than 200 attendees gathered to hear the winners recognised for their excellent contribution to safety, innovation and sustainability in the tank storage sector.
The Terminal of the Future Award went to Exolum’s San Fernando de Henares – Torrejón de Ardoz terminal in Spain. Exolum was awarded this accolade for adapting its operations and services in line with the energy transition. The Torrejón terminal supplies sustainable aviation fuel to Madrid Airport and Exolum is also building a green hydrogen facility at the terminal. The facility will be the first of its type in Madrid and will be able to deliver 60 tpa of green hydrogen mainly for transportation purposes.
The Safety Excellence Award was awarded to Indian Oiltanking. The terminal in Raipur, India, has a proven record of its safety culture, ensuring 2.47 million incident-free working hours since it was established in 2015.
The Terminal Innovation Award was given to Rubis Terminal in the Netherlands. Rubis Terminal was chosen for being a pioneer in using the latest technology to become a zero emissions terminal.
The Port of the Future Award was awarded to the Port of Rotterdam. The Port of Rotterdam was recognised for its commitment to becoming a future-proof port. It has created a three-step strategy to become a frontrunner in the energy transition, involving energy efficiency, developing a new energy system based on electrification and hydrogen and creating a circular economy.
The Emerging Technology Award was given to Qlayers for its 10Q paint robot. The judges described the paint robot an excellent disruptive technology for the tank storage market. They felt this product ticked many boxes when it comes to improving safety and environmental and safety issues.
The Terminal Optimisation Award was handed to Falcker for its Digital Asset Care Platform. The judges were impressed by the technology’s proven success at Maasvlakte Oil Terminal and Vopak Terminal Europoort. They felt the solution provided significant opportunity for efficiency in asset management, reducing the time required onsite for visual inspections. They also felt that it was a great time saving application that could provide early warning signs of tank failures.
The Environmental Performance Award was given to Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) for its GST membrane full containment tank. GTT impressed the judges by designing the world’s largest aboveground membrane full containment LNG storage tanks, each 220,000 m3, which will be commissioned in phases before 2024.
The Innovative Technology Award was given to Siemens for its Digital Worker system. The judges chose this technology as they felt it would change the way terminals are operated in the future. They also said it was a great tool that would allow greater insights to terminal operators and would be essential to help them stay interconnected.
The Safety Technology Award was awarded to Terra Inspectioneering for its Terra UT Drone. This technology was chosen due to its ability to drastically reduce the amount of time needed for both working at height and confined space entry. The judges applauded Terra Inspectioneering for helping to automate tasks and reduce the risk to employees.
The Rising Star Award was awarded to Caitlin Geisinger, Business Development Manager at Burns & McDonnell. Geisinger was selected for her prominent success in her career so far, as well as her involvement in activities in the wider tank storage sector, such as participating in industry associations and contributing white papers.
The final award, the Outstanding Achievement Award, was presented to Fintan Duffy, Managing Director, Re-Gen Robotics. Not only did he receive the most votes from the industry, he was also recognised by the judges for his commitment to his role and for his achievements in non-man entry tank cleaning.
